scrocco is a small app for groups who share costs: a trip, a flat, a couple. Add what you paid, see who owes what, and get a short plan to be even.

Why it exists

Someone always pays. Nobody remembers who.

On a trip, one person pays for dinner, another for the taxi, a third for the groceries. A week later the notes app is a mess and somebody quietly lost 40 euros.

We built scrocco for our own group of friends, to stop doing that math by hand. It does one job: it keeps the tab, so you can keep the friends. (Scroccare is Italian for mooching. The app makes sure nobody does it by accident.)

What it does

Few features, all of them useful.

  1. Groups for the people you share costs with

    One for the flat, one for the summer trip, one for the two of you. Invite friends by email or send them a link.

  2. Four ways to split

    Equal. For all (you paid, the others owe you). Person to person (you paid for one friend). Or by percentage, when the split isn't fair-and-square.

  3. Balances and a payback plan

    See what each person is owed or owes. When it's time, settle the whole group, or mark single payments as done.

  4. Settled stays settled

    After a settlement, the older expenses lock. Nobody can change last month's dinner and quietly undo the math.

  5. Labels for a trip or a season

    Tag expenses with a label like LISBON and get a small report: the total, who paid what, by category, day by day.

  6. A heads-up when something changes

    Get a push notification or an email when someone adds an expense or the group settles up. Turn them off any time.

Also: it installs on your phone's home screen like an app. You sign in with a passkey or a one-time email code, no password to forget. Each group has its own currency (euro, dollar, pound, franc, yen and about 20 more). It speaks English, Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese and German.

What it does not do

On purpose.

  • It doesn't move money. Pay back however you like (cash, bank transfer, a round of drinks). scrocco just records it.
  • It doesn't connect to your bank. You add the expenses you share, nothing else. We never see your accounts.
  • It doesn't convert currencies. One currency per group keeps the numbers honest and easy to check.
  • No ads, no feed, no streaks. You open it, add the dinner, close it.

    That's all we ask. No account yet, no card.

  2. 2. We invite small groups

    A few people at a time, so we can listen and fix things fast. The beta is free.

  3. 3. Then it becomes a small paid app

    Paid, so it doesn't need ads or to sell your data. Testers hear about the launch first.

  4. 4. Bring your group

    A bill splitter is only useful with friends. If you know who'd use it, send them this page.
